Maggie

My name, Maggie, is of English origin which is the short form of Margaret (Greek) "precioius pearl". Used as an independent name in the late 19th century. Popular now due to revival of interest in "old-fashioned" names.

The story behind why my parents chose my name is a little strange. I was close to being named Jackie after my father, Jack, but a few days before I was born my father was at a dentist appointment and the dental hygentist was named Maggie. He became fond of the name. When he came home he shared the name with my mother, and at that moment I was changed from a Jackie to a Maggie.

My surname, Beatty, is of a Gaelic origin. It comes from the male name Bartholomew which can be shortened to Bate or Batey. Therefore, Beatty, used as a surname, means of the family of Bartholomew. Also, the surname of Beatty could be dirived from the Scottish occupation, biadhtach, which is someone whose job is hospitality or entertainment. When Scotts migrated to Ireland biadhtach was renamed beata, which would eventually become Beatty.

21. Have you ever written a research paper? If so, on what topic or topics?

Three research papers that I wrote and I am most proud of are on the topic of the Moaist Rebels of Nepal, the Political Profile of the Dominican Republic, and the relgious reformist, John Calvin. Over a span of three years I have compiled and perfected my research on the Moaist Rebels who are the most serious opposing force against the monarchy in Nepal. My research on the political climate in the Dominican Republic today and in the past I wrote for my government class last semester. Lastly, my paper on John Calvin, I am proud of because I am a practicing Calvanist and he is someone who I respect and admire.

My name is Maggie Beatty from Hershey, Pennsylvania. I am attending St. John's as a Spanish Major. I am hopefully transfering in the fall to Ohio State University or Tennessee University. I feel that I am a good writer and I enjoy reading my final product, but often it is hard to get myself to sit down and compose a paper because of a lack of modivation. I dislike the acutal research that you must do in order to begin writing, but I enjoy writing once I have all of the facts.
