Research Plan
Since my first idea was shot down about the Grateful Dead :) I decided to create this question for my research: Music was a great influence on the culture of the sixties and seventies, so who were the great bands and musicians and how did they each specifically influence the rebellious youth of that generation? I would include Jimi Hendrix and his new style of guitar playing, The Doors and their engaging performances, The Dead and their middle of the line social stances and use of drugs, and Janis Joplin, the breakout female artist.

Maggie,
First of all, there's no "shooting down" in this class -- no war activities, I assure you.
Sometimes we'll ask questions and challenge you about a topic but as a way to help. It's a hard point to communicate sometimes, but it is never to your advantage to take on a topic that, because of its scope or size, may cause great difficulty down the road. So, I try to introduce those potential pitfalls early on -- to avoid pain later on. Make sense?
Anyway -- wow -- your other entry listing the things you're curious about is really engaging! Why not pick one of those and do it as a research project! Almost any one of those would work.
I think you're falling back on the old idea that a "research project" has to be about something conventional, standard, etc. Not that the topic on 60's and 70's music isn't good -- it's fine -- but here again we have something, well, pretty huge that would be hard to handle in 3-4 pages of writing.
And what is the research question? Is it about your taste in music or your friends? family's? community's?
Maggie,
Which bands?
Which rebellious youth?
How can you narrow this down?
How can you speak on behalf of a whole generation? a whole culture?
These are not unfair questions, and again I ask them as a way to point out potential difficulties with this topic.
